Sunday Ten Spot: Dance Dance Revolution

The Top 10 Dance Songs of All Time
Please note: I do not dance, at all, whatsoever due to the fact that I am the most uncoordinated person on earth. I have actually literally tripped while standing still so I avoid tempting gravity altogether. I do however enjoy some good dance music-like these songs....

10. The Macarena (Los del Rio)
Come on-admit it. You know this dance. You could do it in your sleep. Seriously, I was like 12 when this song came out and even I knew how to Macarena-I didn't know what all the dirty words in it meant though. That I learned much later (thankfully).

9. Days Go By (Dirty Vegas)
I think this is the very first techno song I ever heard and I still love it. Something about that electronic voice modulator thingy is just awesome.

8. Heart of Glass (Blondie)
This song may have come out before I was born, but it is eternally cool. Most people may think of Stayin' Alive, or KC and the Sunshine Band, but when I think disco this song is IT for me.

7. Sandstorm (Da Rude)
You will either love or hate this song-but even if you hate it you won't be able to keep your toes from tapping...that's why this trance-techno masterpiece has been remixed so many times (I am especially fond of the Darude/Cosmic Gate Exploration of Sandstorm Space Mix).

6. Smurf Rave (Happy Hardcore Techno)
If you like techno or smurfs and you haven't heard this yet-please do. It's just cool on every level.

5. Groove is in the Heart (Dee Lite)
Come on-it has groove in the title! You know you want to every single time you hear this song.

4. You Spin Me Round (Like a Record) (Dead or Alive)
I definitely like the old school version way better (aren't the originals always better?) but this song in almost any form is dance-worthy.

3. Can't Get You Outta My Head (Kylie Minogue)
And by "you" she means "this song". It really sticks with you-after you hear it you will be dancing around 'la la la'ing to yourself for weeks, but it's totally worth it.

2. Around the World (ATC)
This song is awesome enough that it almost, almost makes even me want to dance. It's just such great techno and is totally mixable. I love ATC/Eiffel 65 and ATC/Vengaboys remixes because they never fail to put a bounce in my step.

1. Rockafeller Skank (Fat Boy Slim)
Check it out now....funk soul brotha....Oh yeah. If I could dance at all it would be to this song. Yes I know it's cheesy and it doesn't make any sense but it may or may not get me to make arm movements (what kind I'll never tell) and for that I am eternally a fan.

What do you dance (or wish you could dance) to?

Celebrate Randomocity

Maybe it's not 'cool' but I have to admit that potlucks are my very favorite parties. It's like food show and tell-I like food....I like show and tell....I figure potlucks are only natural at that point. I love everything about them all the way down to deciding what to bring. Okay, especially deciding what to bring. That's totally my favorite part. Here-have some of my favorites. I would love to feed them to you potluck style, but the second best (most internet friendly) option is to share the recipes with you.

Try some of these out:

George of the Jungle Salad

Fresh Spinach (or Green Leaf lettuce, if you truly hate spinach)
Feta Cheese
Walnuts (or almonds)
Apples (or Strawberries YUM!)
Red Raspberry Vinaigrette Dressing

So easy-just mix to taste. Nothing special. It takes somewhere between ten seconds and two minutes and it's DELICIOUS-so delicious that it's actually the food that first hooked the kidlets on spinach!

Red and Green Potatoes

3 lbs red potatoes, cooked
1 tbsp Dijon mustard
1 tbsp red wine vinegar
1 tsp dill
1 c mayo
2 tbsp crumbled bacon

Scrub potatoes like mad until they are squeaky clean, then boil them (with skin on, thus all the scrubbing) in salt water until they are done. Cut them into smaller pieces and set them aside. Mix mustard, vinegar, dill, and mayo then pour it over the potatoes, stir until it's mixed well then put in the fridge to chill. Once cold, sprinkle crumbled bacon on the top. Everyone ALWAYS loves this version of potato salad (but make sure to let hosts know that it's not vegetarian!).

The Big Cheese
1 pkg (12 ounces) jumbo pasta shells
1 1/4 cups shredded mozzarella
1 cup grated parmesan
2 lbs ricotta cheese
4 large eggs, lightly beaten
1 teaspoon black pepper
1 teaspoon garlic powder
1 tablespoon dried parsley
8 ounces sauce [I prefer Alfredo Sauce, but Tomato is good too =)]
fresh basil or parsley

Preheat the oven to 375*. Cook pasta shells according to directions. Rinse with cold water until cool then place them open side down on top of paper towels. Mix the rest of the ingredients together, leaving out 1/4c mozzarella, sauce, and the basil. Pour a thin layer of sauce into the bottom of a 12x9 pan, fill the shells with cheese mixture and put them open side up in the pan, pour the rest of the sauce over the shells, then loosely cover with tinfoil and bake for 35 minutes. Pull off tinfoil, sprinkle the 1/4 c of mozzarella on top, and bake for five more minutes. Pull out and garnish with basil or parsley.

Cheesecake
15 graham crushed crackers
2 tablespoons melted butter
4 (8 ounce) packages cream cheese
1 1/2 cups white sugar
3/4 cup milk
4 eggs
1c sour cream
1 tbsp vanilla extract
1/4 c flour

Preheat oven to 350 degrees F (175 degrees C). Grease a 9 inch springform pan.
In a medium bowl, mix graham cracker crumbs with melted butter. Press onto bottom of springform pan. In a large bowl, mix cream cheese with sugar until smooth. Blend in milk, and then mix in the eggs one at a time, mixing just enough to incorporate. Mix in sour cream, vanilla and flour until smooth. Pour filling into prepared crust. Bake in a water bath inside a preheated oven for 1 hour. Turn the oven off, and let cake cool in oven with the door closed for 2-5 hours or until the middle is only slightly jiggly. Chill in refrigerator until serving-at least overnight (or 8 hours). I can tell you-cheesecake is ALWAYS A HIT. Ever since I started making it back in February I've very nearly turned into MrsM's House of Cheesecake, there is that much of a demand for it....and not just from me!

I hope you get a chance to try some of these recipes and maybe even take them to a potluck and show them off a bit! Feel free to take 100% credit for them or, if your friends don't like them, blame 'that crazy internet chick'.

Welcome Party Animals!

It's Ultimate Blog Party 2010! WOOOOOOOOOOO! Yes, UBP turns me into a woo girl. I am just that excited. This is my THIRD year doing UBP and can I tell you how much I love it? I love it like koalas love getting drunk off eucalyptus.

WOOOOOO!

Let me introduce myself-I'm MrsM, and I'm (usually) not a woo girl. I am married to my other half of going on 8 years and we have three kidlets-Monkey (age 6), Baby Bug (age 2), and The Bean (age 10 months). I am an unschooler, a Resident Expert on Love, Marriage and Parenting, a blog designer (like my look? You can also check out my gal-pal Kirsty's blog-I did hers too), and otherwise a Jill of All Trades. I love to bake, throw themed children's birthday parties, and I am a GIANT nerd. I always try to keep it interesting around here, and I love having visitors, so take a load off and cruise around awhile.

You can go to my home page to check out old posts that I've featured, play with my etch-a-sketch, or take part in my latest poll. You can also check out my Sunday Ten Spot posts-I have top ten lists for everything including best internet videos, best TV moms, and top ten things I love to cook for dinner.

I am so excited to read new blogs, meet new people, and introduce all said new people to my current and fabulous readers who I know and love. [All good people---you can meet them in my comments or over there in the Google Friends dealie.] This week is going to be full of happy party fun times. On Friday (it's still Thursday here) I'll be posting about my favorite potluck foods, on Saturday I'll be posting about how to make an AWESOME party cake, on Sunday I plan on posting my Top Ten Dance Songs Of All Time, on Monday I'm going to walk you step by step through having an AWESOME (and inexpensive) China-themed kid's birthday party....so make sure to come back and visit. Also, if you want, please leave me a comment so I can make sure to stop by your place and get my UBP on!

Happy partying!
