Friend Makin' Monday: Halloween

When it comes to Halloween, I am a bad bad mommy. These last two years I have been tied up in October-being 3 months pregnant (and throwing up like it) in October 2008, and being 5 months pregnant and passing gallstones in October 2007. Needless to say I really phoned it in on the Halloween costumes. This year was going to be different.

So far not so good.

Turns out having three kids suddenly catapulted my schedule from "active" to "insane". In the last two days the longest stretch of sleep I've gotten it two and a half hours-and when I wasn't sleeping I had far more productive things to do than worry about Halloween costumes.....like spending all my time wishing I was asleep.

This year my parents experienced a grandbaby boom-going from just our two children to five grandchildren altogether-so they've decided they want to have a Halloween party. They are not dissuaded by the fact that 3 out of 5 grandchildren are under 10 months old and 4 out of five are under 2-I suspect this is mostly their excuse to get all the kids rounded up together, ooh and aaah over their costumes, and load them full of sugar.

Back to COSTUMES! Crap! That means I actually have to pull some out of my....well, produce them somehow. While the quick fix would be to throw a sheet over them and call it good (Toga? Ghosts? Sheets are the Halloween multi-purpose tool) I know that the whole family is going to be taking a thousand pictures, and that it's the kids' first Halloween party at grandpa's, and that I really should do something special this year.

SIGH.

If I'm going to do something, I might as well make it something adorable. I like to go with book themes-where the whole family dresses up as characters from a book-and I think this year I'm either going to do Horton Hears a Who or The Wizard of Oz....whichever I can find costumes for on short notice....

What are you guys going to do for Halloween? To see what other people are doing, check out Friend Makin' Monday at aefilkins!

We were going with the Wizard of Oz. We have one girl (Dorothy) and some boys to make up the rest of the cast but as it stands right now, only Dorothy is still in the game. The boys are wandering off into my sporty (boring) themes....

Good luck! Check thrift stores they often have super cute stuff at this time of year.

We have a 4 month old with a head of hair like you wouldn't believe. We're going with baby Elvis. A girlfriend of mine had a great idea you can steal - she's putting her baby in blue pants, a white long sleeve onesie, and making him a little white beard and a red cone hat. Yep, he's a garden gnome.

I found a good idea in a mag for an easy Max Where the Wild Things are costume.. want me to see if I can track it down? I think you buy a footed oatmeal colored onesie, make a crown and tack a tail to his/her butt...

wizard of oz is adorable, and doable with two little ones...

but you'd probably have to be dorothy.

hmm...

i just bought M a lazy-ass halloween costume -- i found a cute footed onesie dealie at old navy. it has a glow in the dark skeleton on it. yeah, mother of the year.

Well my husband and I are co-hosting an adults only party with our neighbors..so I'm going to be a vampire (along with my neighbor/best friend..we're both Twilight addicts). My husband hasn't decided yet..I think he's leaning towards werewolf.

As far as the kids go. My son wants to be a vampire, too..but will most likely be changing his mind. My girls..well my 4 year old wants to be a fairy princess, and I think the 2 year old will be a witch.

We have our first Halloween party tonight, and I have yet to decide what the Hubs and I are going to be. Bree is going to be a Clemson University cheerleader since she got the cheerleader outfit for her 1st birthday and wasn't able to wear it until this year. We saved some money on that aspect :)

I really want to be a Marine since my brother is leaving in January for the Marines.

The hubs is getting off early today so we can go costume shop :)

The Horton Hears a Who is CUTE!

I can't wait to see pictures of what you decide.

Maybe you could all go as Care Bears. I made a costume for my sister once and it was so cute and easy.

Pick out a colored sweatshirt and pants, then cut a circle out of white felt for the tummy. Decide which color Care Bear your outfit is and make that logo with felt and glue on the white circle. Stitch it to the sweatshirt. Then make a red puffy paint heart for your hip.

For the ears, make matching ears out of felt and apply it to a headband.

It was so cute!
