I (DO NOT) Got Rythm

I'm talented in many ways. My desserts are delightful. My singing is sweet. I'm semi-technology talented....but when it comes to gross motor skills I am SOOO lacking. You're talking to the woman who tripped UP a hill. Twice. In the same day. I am just not coordinated in my movements.

So whatever on earth possessed me to try some hip hop cardio? It can only be explained by temporary insanity since I very well know that it is simply impossible for me to force my body to move in one seamless, quick, coordinated movement after another. I should know this better than anyone, I just got too enthusiastic.

It started earlier this evening when I found a TV channel I didn't know that we had. Turns out that when I've got as many channels as I do, entire networks can just go unnoticed forever. Well, almost forever-today I finally noticed Fit TV. It is a 24-hour-a-day 7-day-a-week diet and fitness channel!

Holy-Bending-Yogi Batman.

I've been looking for a way to find the time to exercise, and now workout time is 24 hours a day! Fit TV is run by the Discovery network, not surprising since I already LOVE the other Discovery Channels, and features fun workouts like Shimmy (a belly dancing workout) and Namaste Yoga.

Workouts like All Star Workouts:Hip Hop Dance with MaDonna Grimes. [Dun-Dun-Dun]

This workout caused me to flop around the living room like I was some kind of drunk grizzly bear marionette. Don't get me wrong-it was definitely a workout. I broke into a serious sweat (which I'm sure you're happy to know) and I think it would be an awesome program for anyone who is even slightly more coordinated than I am-a Koala Bear, for instance.

Or, if you're grace-challenged but impulsive like I am you can still try it....though I recommend doing it when no one else is home and with your blinds closed. Also, be sure to remove any reflective surfaces in your workout space, or you'll be laughing so hard at yourself that you won't be able to keep up and you'll get the whole routine mixed up...then you'll REALLY look stupid. I speak from experience here.

And it while was a fun experience, but I think I'm just going to hold out for something that doesn't make me feel like such a fool. I'll let you know how belly dancing goes....

That is funny. Of course when I first read the title I read "rhyme" I was excited since I like to write poetry. Then I saw no poetry but dancing...duh. rythm..

I hope we don't have that channel then I have no excuse. lol

I own the Carmen Electra striptease workout DVDs...I can do the first one and was feeling hot and sexy...then I went and did it in front of a mirror...not so much on the hot and sexy...LOL! But it is FUN!

I'm gross motor challenged as well. Any kind of aerobics usually turns out to be a disaster for me. But I did Zumba for a while and actually got, not good, but slightly better than laughable at it.

While at the beach back in June, I stumbled upon this same t.v channel & they were doing belly dancing work outs. Thought I'd give it a try, because I was at the beach and had been eating like a pig anyway. I thought I was alone in the house. Thought everyone was out, enjoying the sun...but while I'm in some crazy, deformed, twisted position, my Mother walked in the room. She gave me on strange look and kept on walking. I quickly decided to change the channel, and just wait to do my Pilates in the privacy of my own home :)

Oh I can totally relate. There's a reason why I never did group aerobics at the gym. I just stick to working out at home. And I know I must look bad because one time my husband actually sat down on the sofa with a bowl of chips and just stared at me. I was like, "What are you doing?" and he said I was all the entertainment he needed for the day. Geez, nice, huh?

Well, at least you got a workout...even if you didn't look too graceful!

I'd love to try belly dancing.

Let us know how it goes...

Oh my.

I live in LA and used to dance a lot (lots of hip hop) and Madonna Grimes is SERIOUS.

LOL! I'm not motor challenged, but somewhat technologically impaired. I'm working on figuring out how to make my blog not so boring looking. Well, I suppose I should write something in the damn thing first.

thanks for sharing!

I like that Fit TV show too. I'm not into dancing but record the cardio workout and the Gilad workout show on the beach (I think that's his name). Anyhow, just following along with them gives me a really good workout too and I'm planning to discontinue my gym membership and just use Fit TV.

Congrats on your SITS day!

I too am "motor challenged" and my most memorable experience was playing baseball with my 4th grade students (they begged me to please play. But guess what .... I struck out. How embarrassing that the teacher struck out!!!!!

Do you have "on demand" from your cable company? I recently discovered that there are workout videos I can choose and watch anytime. I try to fit in Jillian Michaels' Shred workout, although I'm discipline challenged. I guess that's a result of our unschooling lifestyle (yes, we mostly unschool, too!). Glad to find you from SITS. :-)

I love that show, "Shimmy". With the doors and curtains closed. So no one can see. Something about my wearing flannel pjs to their scantily clad perfect hips. Oh well. Enjoy!

Ha ha, I totally understand what you're talking about. I would *hate* to see what I look like doing tae bo... I think I'm going to have to see if we have the same channel. Give Billy Blanks a rest now and then. :)
