Friend Makin' Monday: Thanksgiving

Whenever I can l love to participate in FMM with my lovely bloggy friend Amber from aefilkins and this week I'm excited to talk about Thanksgiving with you guys in a fun little meme!

1. Turkey or Ham?
Turkey... gobble gobble! I'm trying a new orange-sage recipe.

2. Favorite side dish.
Hmmm....either twice baked potatoes or deviled eggs.

3. Favorite dessert.
Pecan pie and/or fudge.

4. Black Friday: Are you going or not?
Oh heck no! I hate shopping to begin with, when you make it a contact sport, you've lost me entirely. I'll shop online thanks =)

5. If so, what's on the top of your list?
My plans for Black Friday include sleeping in, being warm, and not being physically assaulted at 6am. Good times.

6. Going out of town or staying close to home?
I'm staying at my house!

7. Hosting or helping?
Its just us this year unless my parents decide to drop by-but I'm cooking either way.

8. Name one family tradition at Thanksgiving.
My parents have always eaten Chinese food and watched Clint Eastwood movies for Thanksgiving. Hubby's family enjoys picking each other into tiny pieces and being generally unpleasant while sitting in front of food. For years we've tried to fit ourselves into their traditions but we have decided this year to start our own tradition - an actual, pleasant traditional Thanksgiving. We'll see if anyone wants to join us.

9. What do you do after dinner?
Don't know yet. A movie? A game? A nap?

10. What are you most thankful for this year?
I have so many things to be thankful for this year...my husband who works so hard and takes such good care of us all. Our little ones, including The Bean who was born happy and healthy just this past May. The fact that my business is finally getting off the ground. My brand new lovely computer!!

My life is blessed and I am thankful.

What are you doing for Thanksgiving? Join Friend Makin' Monday and share!

Your hubby's family traditions sound like some of the ones my family had...who wants to spend a "Thankful" day being chewed to bits by obnoxious aunts & uncles? Haha. Like you we have started out OWN tradition this year with our little boy.

Hope you have a happy thanksgiving! Enjoy lots of food and your nice warm bed on Black Friday. I'll probably be doing the same thing.

Happy FMM!

We usually run the Turkey Trot 5K before hand and see a movie after. It's just us for so our menu is simple: Roast beer basted turkey infused with herbed butter medallions, dressing from bread made from scratch, roasted asparagus, potatoes (either mashed, crashed or twice baked), a simple savory sweet potato bake, and a frozen pie (probably pumpkin) because I can't bake for the life of me! Your menu sounds delish, btw!

Your husband's family traditions are definitely my dad's side of the family and my husband's family!! Personally, I like your parents traditions ;) Minus Clint Eastwood.

I think it's great though that you're starting your own traditions! I think that's the best thing you can do.

Yay for starting your own traditions! It sounds like a lovely Thanksgiving. HA! I'm still laughing about your descriptions of Black Friday. While I do love to shop, I don't like contact sports. I stay away from BF too :)

I love that you get to spend Thanksgiving with your immediate family, we are going to my parents and it will be very small. I love small gatherings.

Happy Thanksgiving

I hate to say but the Traditions made me giggle a little! However, how sweet that you are going to start your own tradition of being just your family. :)

I love twice baked potatoes and deviled eggs - my favorites.

And we're staying home this year too. It's nice to not have to fight the crowds.

So sad that your hubby's family doesn't choose to enjoy the time they have together. And while Chinese food is yummy, you can have that any day of the year!

I think that's great that you are doing what works best for your family, even though I bet that's gotta be hard. Hopefully your parents will join you.

Happy Thanksgiving!! Enjoy sleeping in on Friday. :)

Ditto on the contact sport shopping! so not fun. I too love pecan pie, my ultimate favorite.
Enjoy your own family Thanksgiving with tradition and no nitpicking.
