St. Landlord

I have a legitimate reason for posting so late tonight. We've been trying to wrap up the loose ends of our bank troubles. On the bank's side everything is still a royal disaster-they are now citing "credit problems"-even though I have always had bad credit, including the entire time the bank account has been open-as the reason for closing my account, and have informed me that notification of their right to close my account on basically any and/or no grounds with no notice and with hold funds while assessing an undisclosed amount of fees is in the bank agreement that I signed when I opened the account (over the phone). Yeah I can't find that, but if they say it's there it probably is...I have no doubt that they've been through this song and dance before, probably with people who actually have lawyers.

The bottom line is, we eat it.

The next step was to figure out what the hell we're going to do about all of this. We're more than two grand in the hole if you count all of the bills that we're not paying right now due to our money being held hostage. One month of rent alone is more than a grand. We talked to Hubby's work to try to get on a special program for employees who need financial help, but they decided that because the bank said the problem was caused by my credit that the situation is our fault. Goodie. So we talked to Hubby's mom who reached into her deep pockets and pulled out less than half of our rent alone. Not because she doesn't have the money-that would be understandable-but because she "doesn't feel comfortable loaning us more money than that". Oh yeah, you caught that-LOANING. I could go on a huge rant about loaning money to family, but I'll skip it for now. The bottom line is that sure, I'm glad we were able to borrow 1/4 of the money for our bills at an excruciatingly high emotional cost, but that still leaves us up poo creek.

The good news is that even though we will still owe the money and a LOT of stuff is going to get shut off, we do get to stay in our home because our landlord is a SAINT. He has always been super great if we've had to pay a few days late. He was super great about moving us in at all considering my credit history (you know, the one the bank closed me down for). Hubby called him a couple of days ago and set up an appointment to meet with him on Friday and talk. By then, with two paychecks of Hubby's plus his Mother's money we'll be able to pay the January rent (which didn't clear before they shut down our account and now WON'T clear). Hubby already went over the basics with the landlord-you know, the fact that the January check would bounce and that we didn't know how we were going to pay for that and February in two weeks-and our kind, generous landlord's response was appearantly,

"I understand. We'll talk more on Friday-try not to worry too much about it until then."

I'd say to call the Pope and nominate him for canonization, except I'm pretty certain our landlord is Mormon. Do Mormons have saints? Or a Pope-type-guy? Really I'm just happy knowing that no matter what religious structure he follows God is seeing all the good things he does for us and, I hope, is blessing him for it.

That's all we got for now-none of the rest of our bills are paid, and we now owe $400 and emotional penance to Hubby's mother, but we get to keep our home-and for the thousandth time by grace and faith are we saved.

Therefore I tell you, do not worry about your life, what you will eat or drink; or about your body, what you will wear. Is not life more important than food, and the body more important than clothes? (Matthew 6:25)

Ok wait if you didn't sign a paper I would demand to see it period. without a signature from YOU they are screwed. Secondly I would let hubby open an accoiunt in his name and have my stuff deposited there. If he is themain accountholder they cannot close it down. Or invest in one of those prepay cards and have your check put on it. Bless your landlord.

Oh Mrs M, hang in there! I'm well versed in the emotional cost of in-laws, and wish I could send you an obligation-free check! And a pox on the bank... and your MIL....

Girl...I would be like...going crazy. Crazy is not even a strong enough word for it. I wouldn't be sleeping or eating or anything though. I'm a worry wart, but God does provide, and He's not going to leave you out in the cold.

Oh my goodness. I'm so sorry for your banking issues.

You'll have to bake your landlord the best cookies in the world or something along those lines.

I hope it all works out soon.
