Were You Aware?

Some fun facts to know and love

  • The phrase "Did You Know?" is copyrighted by Scholastic...and they are extremely litigious.

  • It is illegal to fish from the back of a giraffe in Idaho. You must also have the sheriff's permission to buy a chicken after dark.

  • It is physically impossible for a pig to look up into the sky.

  • On average a human will spend two entire weeks of their lives kissing.

  • Speaking of kissing...were you aware that more babies are conceived in December than in any other month? Merry Christmas.

  • Mel Blanc (the voice of Bugs Bunny) was allergic to carrots.

  • Lucille Ball (of I Love Lucy and head of Desilu Productions) single handedly kept the original Star Trek television show from being cancelled during it's first season.

  • Due to jobs, kids, TV, the Internet, hobbies, and home and family responsibilities, the average married couple spends just four minutes alone a day together. [I couldn't believe this!]

  • Count Von Count of Sesame Street is based on actual vampire myth. According to lore, one way to deter vampires is to throw mustard seeds outside of a door or place a fishing net outside of a window because vampires are compelled to count the seeds or holes in the net and will then be delayed until the sun rises.

  • We can never truly measure the circumference or the area of a circle because we can never truly know the value of pi. Pi is an irrational number, meaning its digits go on forever in a seemingly random sequence.

I am still trying to comprehend the pig/sky thing. This could take me awhile. Is this why they love mud puddles--because they can see the reflection of the sky there?

I'm glad to say my husband and I do better than just 4 minutes alone a day. We at least eat breakfast together every day and sometimes walk the dog together and watch TV together. Saturdays, we do errands together.
