Me and the MDs

I know my post is late for the day, but I've been busy with doctors most of the day. Nothing terribly serious, just a lot of checking and more to come. I took The Bean in to get checked out again because she isn't gaining weight the way she is supposed to. She's just now doubled her birth weight at 8 months and is a whopping 13lbs. We tried everything, we even switched her to formula but nothing's working. She has a terrible aversion to solid food-she just spits it right out, no matter what kind it is-and she only takes in very small amounts of formula at a time (it takes her a half our to drink 4-6 ounces). The doc is suspicious that she might have GERD and/or possibly a liver problem, so we're going to take her in to get an abdominal ultrasound next week and then take her back to the doctor for a follow up.

After The Bean's doctor appointment I got on the phone with my new doctor. My body has been going completely hay wire lately. I continue to gain a severe amount of weight despite diet and exercise, I have no period, and now I'm having trouble swallowing. I've gone to a regular doc who tested my thyroid, gave me a blood pregnancy test, and checked over my eating/exercise habits. I'm not pregnant, my thyroid tested normal, and I eat/exercise appropriately. Their reaction? HUH. So I went to a specialist who had the exact same reaction. HUH. So now I'm going to go see a naturopath. I talked to him on the phone today and he seemed to have a lot more to say than huh. His first guesses based on my symptoms were that my autoimmune system is creating antibodies against my thyroid (which apparently has the same symptoms as hypothyroid), that I have some kind of hormone imbalance, and that there is probably a problem with some part of my nervous system. Obviously this is all pending my exam next week, but I'm encouraged by the fact that he had some ideas to go with. It's definitely a good start.

Next week is going to be super busy with doctor's appointments but don't worry-I have no intention of giving up on my New Year's Resolution any time soon! After all, I'm planning for my 300th post and my big Custom Spa package giveaway to be on the 29th and I can't disappoint anyone.

I hope you guys are all having an easier day than I am!

Oh my goodness! That was my son for his 1st year! He ended up being diagnosed with severe reflex and was placed on medication that really helped. Good luck.

Good luck with your own health issue...it sounds as if you are on the right path. My sister had the same issues and finally found a doctor who would help her. I get so tired of doctors who treat to the lab instead of to the symptoms. Take care!

good grief... that's a lot to deal with all at once.. praying for bean and you. I love naturopathic medicine, they are so awesome in knowing what the body needs or doesn't need.. wishing you good luck on that as well..

Wow this sounds like a stressful time. I really hope the naturopath figures something out to help you! And I hope your little one's issues get figured out too.

Oh my goodness. I hope everything turns out okay on both accounts.

I'll keep you my thoughts and prayers.
